Bristol, Tennessee (3/29/2021) What a six month stretch Bakersfield, California native Jerry Flippo is having. From capturing his first IMCA Modified win at the end of 2020 at Antioch Speedway’s Turkey Night, to running up front all week at one of the most prestigious dirt races in the nation, Jerry Flippo is on a meteoric rise to the top of the West Coast IMCA Modified ranks.
Heading into the event, Flippo’s goals were to simply try to make each feature and hopefully get it into the big show to grab his sponsors as much national attention as possible, but Flippo blew those expectations out of the water the first time he hit the track.
After coasting to a heat race win on the opening night of the Bristol Dirt Nationals, Flippo lined up 2nd in Tuesday’s rain delayed feature event.
From his front row starting spot, Flippo would survive a multitude of cautions and a late race charge from one of the best in the class in Justin O’Brien to lead all 20 laps and score the preliminary feature victory.
Thanks to his win on Tuesday, Flippo was locked into Friday’s $7,500 to win finale, though he still needed to race Wednesday to accumulate points to help with his starting position.
Flippo would roll of 10th in Wednesday’s heat, and found himself inside the Top 5 in short order before contact with another racer led to a caution and sent Flippo to the rear of the field. With only 3 laps left, Flippo did all he could to salvage a decent finish, climbing to 6th before the checkered flag.
Wednesday’s preliminary feature could not have been any further from Tuesday’s success. Unfortunately for Flippo, he would start mid-pack but pull off halfway through the race with a mechanical failure.
With Wednesday’s misfortune hampering his point total in a big way, Flippo started 11th in Friday’s main event. Though he fell back early, Flippo quickly rebounded to move into the Top 10. Over the last 5 laps, you could throw a blanket over Flippo, Joel Rust and Jeff Larson who exchanged the 8th, 9th and 10th positions repeatedly. Flippo would end the race in 9th, taking a Top 10 spot out of over 120 competitors for the week.
When asked about his week, Flippo said that it simply was awesome, and there wasn’t much more to say about it.
Jerry Flippo would like to thank all of his sponsors and supporters including:
