Bristol, TN (3/22/2021) What looked to be a promising run at the Bristol Dirt Nationals came to an abrupt end for Watertown, South Dakota’s Trevor Anderson. Anderson looked to be well on his way to a Main Event berth when suddenly with just 2 laps left in Saturday’s Last Chance Qualifier, his brakes locked up and sent him crashing into the outside wall.
Fortunately for Anderson, his 2018 Arrow Chassis limited him to just a concussion, keeping him from sustaining far more serious injuries considering the speed at which his car was traveling.
Like many of the divisions on the card this past week, rain played a big factor in scheduling, limiting the Open Modified class to just one night of heat races and preliminary features. Anderson’s heat race was pretty straightforward, as he went from 10th to 9th over the 10 lap race.
With his heat race result, Anderson would line up 18th in the 23 car preliminary feature field. Once the feature started, Anderson was on the move. Anderson would motor past 7 cars to grab 11th just 3 laps in. Only 2 laps later, Anderson found himself in 9th after the 2nd caution of the race waved. Anderson picked off 2 more to claim 7th before another caution with 11 to go. With 5 to go Anderson made his final pass of the feature to take 6th, where he’d eventually go on to finish.
Thanks to a strong prelim run, Anderson would be rewarded with the pole position in Saturday’s Last Chance Qualifier, needing to finish in the Top 4 to make the $10,000 to win finale.
Things were looking good for Anderson in the LCQ, leading the first 5 circuits before Trey Harris powered past for the top spot. Unfortunately for Anderson, his strong run would come to an end just 3 laps later due to the aforementioned crash. Anderson would remark afterwards about how happy he was to have such a safe, well built racecar.
