As we head into the last weekend of July, Jesse Bryant is turning heads and riding a wave of momentum after back to back 6th place runs at Placerville Speedway. With his finish Saturday night, the teen Pure Stock driver also moved into 5th place in the division’s overall points standings.
Bryant unfortunately struggled in heat race action early in the night, as he was unable to get into a steady rhythm, relegating him to a 6th place finish out of the 7 finishers.
Once the Main Event began, however, you could see a noticeable difference in the way Bryant attacked the track. After starting 7th in the 8 car field, Bryant quickly took 6th as he settled in behind fellow Rookie of the Year contender Stephanie Hanson.
Just as Hanson had begun to open a fairly sizeable advantage back to Bryant, a lap 10 caution brought the field back together for a restart.
Bryant wouldn’t waste any time on the ensuing restart, as he took 5th and started pulling away from Hanson and the rest. As laps wound down, multi-time winner Kevin Jinkerson began reeling Bryant in for 5th.
Bryant was able to hold him off for a few laps before Jinkerson finally made his move with 3 to go, forcing Bryant to once again settle for a 6th place finish.
Though Bryant would have loved a Top 5, the finish served him well, as he moved into the Top 5 in points, while also gaining 10 more ever-important points in the Rookie of the Year battle with Hanson with just 4 events remaining.
Jesse will be back in action this Saturday night for the Mark Forni Classic.
The Bryant Racing team would also like to send their best to veteran racer Mel Byers, who suffered a hard crash into the Turn 1 wall at Placerville Speedway Saturday night. Byers was able to walk away from the incident with no major injuries.
Jesse would like to thank all of his sponsors and supporters, including:
