Sorensen Once Again Victorious at Antioch, Picks Up 4th Win of 2019

(6/19/2019) PC: Katrina Kniss

For the 4th time already in 2019, Chris Sorensen is back in victory lane at Antioch Speedway. It’s been a dominant season for the defending Hobby Stock champ, who through 9 races still has not finished lower than 2nd. With his 4th win of the season Saturday night, Sorensen now holds a 48 point lead over closest competitor Josh Leach.

Sorensen would roll off 3rd in his heat. From the drop of the green flag, it quickly became clear that Sorensen and Luke Brignoli easily had the 2 quickest cars in the race, as Sorensen stayed glued to Brignoli’s rear bumper.

While Sorensen had multiple opportunities to pass for the lead, he just couldn’t find the grip to make a move stick, ultimately settling for 2nd in the heat.

For the feature, Sorensen would start 3rd. His race was nearly in danger on the opening lap as the leader got sideways in front of Sorensen, with Sorensen just sneaking by to take 2nd. After looking for a way past for 2 laps, Sorensen would grab the lead from Ken Johns on lap 4 after Johns drifted high and allowed Sorensen to slide past.

A couple laps later, the first and only caution of the race waved to bring the field back together. After a lengthy caution, the race restarted with Sorensen jumping out to a sizeable advantage. As he maneuvered his way through lapped traffic, Sorensen’s lead only grew as two new challengers began to emerge in Josh Leach and James Thomson.

After a particularly hard to pass lapped car, Sorensen’s big lead was completely wiped out, allowing Leach and Thomson to close in.

As the leaders continued to battle through a large number of lapped cars, Sorensen’s lead once again began to grow. Though Thomson threw one last shot at him, Sorensen held on to once again find victory lane at Antioch Speedway.
