Though it was brief, Rio Linda native Ralph Bailey got a chance to get his feet wet with the Limited Modified division this season at Roseville’s All American Speedway. Bailey’s rookie season was limited to just 6 races due to the speedway getting a late start on the season.
Though the team struggled to find speed on the opening weekend, they came back strong at the next race. Bailey decided to run with the North State Modified Series to get some extra seat time, which turned out to be a great decision. Bailey was able to survive carnage all night to take home 10th in the 20 car field.
While the next race, August 18th ‘s Quick Quack 60 was another low point, Bailey would bounce back stronger than ever. As soon as he rolled off the trailer September 8th, Bailey was showing much more speed than he had the entire year. After a Top 5 qualifying run, Bailey ran a strong feature to finish 4th.
That would unfortunately be the best moment of the season, as the speed appeared to vanish the next race, taking 7th of 8 cars at the Monster Truck Madness event. That left one race left in 2018, the November 3rd Trailer Bash. A solid qualifying run placed him just outside the Top 10 in the huge 20 car field. Unfortunately for Bailey, his race would end at the drop of the green, as he was involved in a massive 10 car crash on the start that resulted in Bailey going up and over on his roof. It was an unfortunate end to a rough rookie season.
When asked about his opinion on how his 2018 went, Bailey said: “I Can’t Believe how much I have learned in such a short season.” If Bailey is able to build off the flashes of speed he showed this season, there’s no doubt that next season will go far better.
